Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore
Friends of the Sleeping Bear Dunes, Inc.The Friends of the Sleeping Bear Dunes is a nonprofit organization that was established in 1994 to assist in the preservation, restoration, and interpretation of the natural, cultural, historical, and recreational resources of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
Its
growing membership has volunteered their services to the park
by such diverse methods as building viewing platforms (most notably
the Lake Michigan Overlook along the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive),
an active Adopt-A-Tail program, rehabilitating campsites, staffing
the Visitor Center and museums, and providing services and obtaining
grant monies for park projects.
The group also raises funds for the park through the sale of its patch, which the Friends developed. The patch is available for purchas at the park bookstore facilities, located at the Visitor Center on M-72 in Empire and at the Dune Center.
