Winter Hours to Begin at Sitka National Historical Park

Sitka National Historical Park will begin winter operations on Wednesday, October 1st. The visitor center will be open from 8 am – 5 pm Monday through Saturday, and closed on Sundays and federal holidays. Tours of the Russian Bishop’s House are available weekdays by advance reservation, as staffing allows. There will be no charge for Russian Bishop’s House tours or for the visitor center. The transfer of Alaska from Russia took place in Sitka. On October 18, 1867, the Russian flag was lowered on Castle Hill, home of Alaska's Russian governors, the American flag was raised, and a brief exchange of statements completed the transfer of Alaska to the United States.
