Park to Premiere Efield Trip

Monday, March 27 marks the premier of Sitka National Historical Park’s first electronic field (efield) trip. “Timeless Totems: The Carved History of the Alaska Coast” can be reached at: http://www.efieldtrips.org/ .
Efield trips include an interactive virtual visit, educational worksheet materials, references, and “Ask An Expert” (where students can pose questions to park staff). Those interested can complete the free registration process at the website. The efield trip can be accessed from March 27 through May, with the Ask An Expert event taking place April 11-13.
Sitka’s efield trip focuses on the cultural and preservation history of the park’s totem pole collection. It also celebrates the centennial of the totem poles being placed in the park in 1906.
Did You Know?
Alaska’s Governor John Brady asked leaders from several southeast Alaska villages to donate totem poles for public exhibitions outside of Alaska, and eventually, for display at Sitka’s popular public park. More than a dozen Tlingit and Haida poles were placed along the park’s trail in 1906. More...
