Date: June 17, 2008

Volunteers are needed to help rid Sitka National Historical Park of invasive plants. As part of Alaska Invasive Weed Awareness Week, June 23-29, the park has organized a community “weed pull” to help remove unwanted plants from the park ecosystem. Kristi Link, Invasive Plants biological technician, will lead a short walk identifying invasive plants found in the park on Wednesday, June 25th at 10:00 A.M. After the walk, from 10:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M., volunteers are invited to help Kristi pull invasive weeds from the park’s trails. Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for working outdoors and asked to bring work gloves, weed diggers, trowels, and cultivators. The park will provide bags for weed disposal and participants will be rewarded with homemade cookies. For more information please contact Kristi Link at 747-0181.
