Sitka National Historical Park will begin a landscaping project June 11th that will improve pedestrian and maintenance vehicle access to the front of the park visitor center. The project includes replacing asphalt walkways with hardened gravel paths. The park and the visitor center will remain open throughout the project. The grassy area in front of the visitor center, including the lower, seaside entrance to the park trail, will be closed. Local users are asked to consider using the park’s Sawmill Creek entrance, or enter the trail system via the upper parking lot. Signs will direct visitors to temporary trail access routes. The project is expected to last up to four weeks. By respecting closed areas the public will help the park accomplish the work as quickly and as safely as possible. For more information please contact the park visitor center at 747-0110.
