Sitka National Historical Park (March 1, 2012) - Looking to liven up these long Alaskan nights?Sitka National Historical Park concludes its winter program series, "An Evening in the Park" during the month of March. Thursday, March 8th Curator's Tour of the Russian Bishop's House 7:00 p.m. This evening tour will focus on the original furnishings and objects in the Russian Bishop's House, and the stories they tell about the people who lived there.Originally completed in 1843, the Bishop's House served as the center of Orthodoxy in Alaska until the time of its sale to the National Park Service in 1972. As a living museum, the chapel and icons of the house continue to be used by the Orthodox Church today.The tour is limited to 10 people and reservations must be made in advance by contacting the Visitor Center at 907-747-0110.Please note: program will take place at the Russian Bishop's House. Thursday, March 22 Bird Guts 7:00 p.m. Veterinarian Victoria Vosburg will present an engaging introduction to the basic anatomy and physiology of birds using the bald eagle as an example.
