This is a day dedicated to park trails, health and the community of Sitka. There will be a series of free health related presentations and exercise classes open to the public.The park will unveil the new Park Prescription Program; a collaboration between AK State Health Department, Sitka Community Hospital and SEARHC.Park Prescriptions is designed to promote outdoor activity to patients through their healthcare providers. The program is sponsored by the Sitka Health Summit. Presentations and activities will occur on the hour and park partner Sitka Trail Works will have a booth staffed with knowledgeable board members from 10-2. Schedule of Events 9am: Good morning with Dr. Lehman: presentation on the benefits of physical activity outdoors. Sitka Health Summit Presentation of support to the new Park Prescriptions Program 1000am: Hames XCamp takes it to the Trails with Carrie!!This short 45 minute circuit and interval training will be sure to get your blood pumping in the outdoors.Running, traveling jumping jacks, bear crawls, and frog jumps followed by interval training for a full body workout.All fitness levels welcome! 11am: Sara Bruhl from Oceanside Physical Therapy to present! Noon:Dedication of the River View Trail, ribbon cutting and community gathering followed by a short walk on the new trail with Park Superintendent Randy Larson, Sitka Trail Works board members, and rangers. 1pm: Koali owner of Botanika, the new organic spa and tonic bar opening in Sitka, will do a demonstration on making Power Smoothies and Superfood Snacks.Healthy and nutritious options for a walk in the park! 2 pm: SEARHC Behavioral Health Psychiatrist, Dr Sugai and Debi Terry, M.S.,L.P.C. on the benefits of outdoor activity for mental health. 3pm: Dr.Vicki Vosburg "Walk a Loop with a Vet" She will be on call, so walkers please beware. 4pm:Outdoor Yoga with Crystal from Balanced Practice There are activities for kids scheduled at 10am, 1pm and 4pm: coloring contest, nature hike and exercise with rangers (parents must be on site).
