Shiloh Battlefield will host an owl program in the visitor center auditorium on the last day of the month, Thursday, July 31st at 7:00 pm. The evening program will begin with a presentation in the on the biology and behavior of these birds. Visitors will also be introduced to a live owl brought by guest speaker Dr. James Huggins, who is a biology professor at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee.
Owls are seldom seen in the daytime, so for an audience to see them live and up close will provide an opportunity for the public to gain a greater understanding and appreciation of these birds. The program will conclude outdoors where the ranger will lead park visitors on a car caravan tour, stopping at select places on the battlefield to observe and identify the calls of owls and other night birds. The two-hour program will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Participants are encouraged to arrive at least 5 minutes prior to the start of the program. Those interested in participating are invited to contact the Shiloh Battlefield Visitor Center at 731-689-5696, or e-mail the battlefield’s Natural Resource Manager Marcus Johnson at Marcus_Johnson@nps.gov, to register for the program. Registration is preferred, but not required, to attend this program.
