Cannon to Roar Again at Shiloh

“The sound of cannon fire will again rumble across Shiloh’s hallowed grounds on July 23rd and 24th,” announced Superintendent Woody Harrell. On Saturday and Sunday, park staff dressed in
period uniforms will present cannon firing demonstrations in the open field south of the park’s visitor center. The weekend interpretive programs will focus on Civil War artillery, specifically on the combat roll played by Union and Confederate artillery during the Battle of Shiloh.

Each cannon firing interpretive program will last approximately 30 minutes, with one six-pounder cannon being fired three times during each presentation. The program will include information on the different types of guns and projectiles used during the war and describe the process used to load and fire a Civil War cannon.

The demonstration times will be 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 3:00 pm each day. Rain or severe weather will cancel the programs. Normal park entrance fees of $3 per person or $5 per family will be charged. Those 15 years of age and younger are admitted free. For more information on this and other park programs, please contact the visitor center at 731-689-5696, visit the park website at www.nps.gov/shil or Facebook at www.facebook.com/ShilohNMP.
