Horse Trailer Parking

Trailhead parking for horse trailers may be very limited or unavailable both on Skyline Drive and at park boundary access points. Below is a short reference list of suggested maximum trailer sizes for common parking areas, including all parking areas for the website's suggested trail ride routes. Of course, one poorly parked car may block an entire lot. Always have a back-up parking lot and route in mind for situations when a lot is full. Be aware that on nice weekends after 10 a.m. many of the parking lots may be too full to accommodate trailers. If you are riding as a group and will have more than two trailers, familiarize yourself with the parking before your scheduled ride.

A hiker is dwarfed by the huge, round, lichen-covered boulders of Old Rag Mountain.

Did You Know?
The large rounded boulders on the top of Old Rag, Shenandoah National Park’s most popular peak, were formed in place by chemical and physical weathering, called spheroidal weathering.
