Shenandoah National Park and the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club celebrates National Trails Day on the first Saturday in June. New hikers and experienced backpackers alike are invited to learn new trail skills and practice old ones at the "Beyond the Trailhead" event at the Byrd Visitor Center, mile 51 on Skyline Drive. Participate in hikes, demonstrations, and presentations. The event is free and open to the public (standard park entrance fees apply).

"Beyond the Trailhead" - Byrd Visitor Center (mile 51) 9:15 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Learn new skills for the safe and responsible enjoyment of our natural world. Try out traditional trail maintenance tools such as two-man crosscut saws. An expert instructor with Emergency Response Training will demonstrate first aid for snake bites, splints, bandages, and more, with visitors encouraged to participate. 

Guided Hikes:
Join the Trail Patrol for a hike. Arrive 15 minutes prior to hike time. Bring water, food, clothing, and footwear appropriate for the hike. Register for a hike in person at Byrd Visitor Center the day of the event or pre-register for a hike by emailing TPNTD@patc.net by June 3rd. For more information visit www.patc.net.
