Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park
Plan A Field Trip

Sequoia and Kings Canyon's curriculum based programs are on temporary hiatus for spring 2012 as we re-evalutate and re-design them. We will have new programs offered in the fall of 2012. Please check back later to view the new offerings and to sign up your classroom.

For questions, contact our Education Coordinator at 1-559-565-3132 or by email. Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks does not charge an entrance fee for school programs. On the trip, one adult is required for every 10 students.

Sequoia Natural History Association (SNHA):

Park programs (for a small fee) may also be arranged with the Sequoia Natural History Association. Call their Education Director at 559-565-4251 or check out their web site, Sequoia Field Institute.

Academic Entrance Fee Waiver

If you plan to bring a class to the parks and conduct educational activities with the students on your own, you can apply for an Academic Entrance Fee Waiver.

Academic Entrance Fee Waivers to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks are granted to groups conducting educational activities in the parks that relate to curriculum in a class for which the students receive academic credit.

To apply for an Academic Entrance Fee Waiver, please submit the following information on school letterhead:

  1. Leader's name and contact information.
  2. Date(s) you will enter and exit the park and entrance station(s) you will pass through each time (north entrance into Kings Canyon National Park on Highway 180 is the "Big Stump" Entrance; south entrance into Sequoia National Park on Highway 198 is the "Ash Mountain" Entrance).
  3. Type of group (college geology class, 3rd grade class etc.) and number of students and adults/instructors separately.
  4. Locations (particular features, trails, visitor centers) in the parks where you will conduct educational activities. Please describe what those activities will be and how they relate to class curriculum (any pre-trip activities, as well as follow-up activities upon return to the classroom).
