  • Salt River Bay NHP&EP Visitor Contact Station Closed until November 2014

    The Visitor Contact Station at Salt River Bay is currently closed until we reopen on November 14, 2014. Based on staff availability we can open by appointment, or reserve for specific function. Call 340-773-1460 for more information


There are several air carriers to St Croix arriving at the Henry E. Rohlesen Airport. The park is five miles from Christiansted National Historic Site and can be reached by car via Rt. 75 from Christiansted, connecting to Route 80. Cars may be rented at the airport and various other island locations. Ask your lodging hosts for information about guided land tours.

On November 14, 1493: On his second voyage to the new world, Columbus’ men encountered several Caribs in a canoe at Salt River Bay. The fight that ensued is the first documented armed resistance by natives to European encroachment in the Americas.
