Virtual Tour Stop 1

Trees line a road next to a grassy field.
View from Stop 1

Saratoga National Historical Park

Unfolding before you is the scenic Freeman Farm Overlook. Today, the view of the Freeman Farm is mostly obscured by the tree growth in the foreground. But the heavy tree growth, hills, and ravines --all farther back in this picture-look now very much as they did during the Battles of Saratoga on September 19 and October 7, 1777.

The open fields also appear very similar to the time of the battles. Further, a system of dirt roads existed here at that time; the modern paved tour road (center of picture) runs very close to where those historic roads once lay.
