These Stones Do Speak

In Fall of 2009, These Stones Do Speak: 300 Years of Marking Death will also become available for travel. This colorful, multi-panel exhibition explores the three centuries of history of the cemetery at St. Paul’s Church National Historic Site. The 5-acre cemetery is one of the oldest continuously used burial yards in the nation. It contains a stunning variety of stones, religious and secular imagery, carving styles, epitaphs and even burial chambers. The appearance of the yard has been influenced by changes in religious beliefs and wealth, the development of stone carving as a profession, and even broad cultural trends.
