THE SAND CREEK MASSACRE NHS IS OPEN 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM DAILY. THE SITE WILL CLOSE FOR THE SEASON DECEMBER 1, 2009 - APRIL 1, 2010.

TO SCHEDULE A VISIT BETWEEN DECEMBER 1 AND APRIL 1, PLEASE CALL OR WRITE THE PARK AT LEAST TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE. ACCESS WILL BE DETERMINED BY AVAILABILITY OF STAFF AND FORECAST WEATHER CONDITIONS.

The massive petrified redwood stump known as the "Big Stump" is not actually the largest diamter stump at Florissant Fossil Beds. The "Big Stump" measures 38 feet in circumference, but the biggest stump is over 41 feet.
