Partial Park Closure Due to Hazardous Conditions
Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa re-opens 5/14/13, with restrictions (sunrise to sunset, not all trails). Sandstone Peak & Mishe Mokwa trails will also open, as will Backbone Trail east of Point Mugu State Park boundary. Point Mugu backcountry remains closed. More »

Trucks on Cheeseboro Canyon Trail
Occasional truck traffic (approx 6 trips per day) will take place on Cheeseboro Cyn Trail weekdays between 8am & 4pm for demolition and removal of Cheeseboro Tank. Should be completed by 5/24/13. Check back for updates or call 818-889-8996. More »
Santa Monica Mountains Science Festival
FREE! For inquiring minds of all ages! Become a citizen scientist. Learn how to track mountain lions, bobcats, and island foxes. Get to know the local wildlife. Discover the mysteries of your neighborhood national parks. The 4th annual Science Festival is sponsored by the National Park Service in partnership with the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, the Children's Nature Institute, Santa Monica Mountains Fund, UCLA LaKretz Center for CA Conservation Science, and NatureBridge.
There are activities for people of all ages, including talks, hands-on demonstrations, nature walks, family activities, live animal displays, and a chance to meet and talk with the scientists. We invite you to come out and explore the natural and cultural resources within the Santa Monica Mountains and learn about the scientific research that helps us all better understand and protect those resources! From 101 Freeway, exit Kanan Rd. Go south towards the ocean (from 101 N, left turn, from 101 S, right turn). Make a left on Cornell Road. Continue for 2 miles. The entrance to Paramount Ranch is on the right. From PCH, go north on Kanan Dume Rd towards Agoura Hills. Continue up Kanan for 12 miles. Make a right on Cornell Rd. Continue for 2 miles. At the geographical center of Los Angeles is a national park site. At Franklin Canyon Ranch in Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, you can see cityscapes and natural views. The recreation area extendes in an east-west direction running through the heart of the city.
