Join us to learn more about the people, history and significance of Coast Guard Air Station Salem from the authors of the new book, "Coast Guard Air Station Salem, 1935-1970." This free event will be held at 7pm, Wednesday, March 4th at the Visitor Center (2 New Liberty St.).

The talk and book signing includes Nelson Dionne, who provided the photographs and advised on the project; Bonnie Hurd Smith, the author; and Ellen Hardy, the designer and publisher.

An excerpt from the new book:

National Park Service historian and Salem resident Douglas Sabin remembers Coast Guard Air Station Salem as “a place for heroes, men who threw themselves again and again into heart-stopping rescues and searches, nine times at the cost of their own lives,” writes Salem News reporter Alan Burke. “There were many lives saved by the pilots and crews from the air station and its rescue operations,” says Sabin. “There’s a great deal of heroism associated with that base.”
