Building Friendship: Reports by John Monaghan September 2000: Rigging the Lower Mizzen Deadeyes On a bright Saturday morning in late September, a group of us met on board Friendship to help set up the lower deadeyes on the mizzen shrouds. Jeremy took us through the sequence of events to get the lanyards through the deadeyes and tightened. He and David had already rigged a 3-part tackle from the mizzen masthead down to the lanyards. The fall of this tackle was tied to the hook of a 4-part tackle running along the starboard side of the deck up to the windlass. With the windlass, and the 3-part tackle combined with the 4-part tackle, we figured we would be exerting a pull of nearly 6,000 pounds on the lanyards!
