Salem Maritime offers a number of different ranger-guided programs to meet a range of curricula and levels of interest. Our tour of the Custom House and tall ship Friendship lasts about one hour, and is great for groups that are visiting multiple sites in Salem in a single day. The hands-on activities last about 45 minutes and can be used to reinforce or introduce subjects in mathematics, physics, astronomy, history, economics, among many other disciplines. For 5th grade teachers looking for an immersive experience, the three-hour Salem Sets Sail program gets students into the lower decks of Friendship to explore the lives of sailors in early America, and out on the water in a reproduction schooner to learn how to navigate Salem harbor on a traditional sailing vessel.
