El Morro Pet Fest

On Sunday, March 4 the first ever 'El Morro Pet Fest' will be held on the grounds of Castillo San Felipe del Morro in old San Juan from 10 am to 5 pm. This event is sponsored by the San Juan National Historic Site, the Municipality of San Juan and Gravy Train.

The event will include various activities such as training for dogs, a closed dogs' park, a center for the adoption of cats by Save-a-Gato, yoga and massage for pets and their guardians by Natura, instant print photos by Silver & Pixel, cartoons' workshop for children, children's inflatable playground, footprints' painting, artistic performances, guest artists, guidance on recycling, food gathering for pets' shelters, and much, much more. In addition, Park Rangers will also be providing educational talks to promote San Juan National Historic Site as a pet friendly environment and problems associated with the abandonment of stray animals.

"For many years the grounds of Castillo San Felipe del Morro has been a site for enjoying picnics, flying kites, recreation as well as people enjoying the park with their pets.We want this event to continue fostering such use and emphasize that pets are welcome with their families to enjoy this area of the fortification and at the same time they can help us in keeping this special place clean and safe for all visitors of the fortifications of San Juan National Historic Site ", said San Juan National Historic Site Superintendent, Walter J. Chavez.

"We are pleased to be working with the Municipality of San Juan, Gravy Train, Pet ID, Save A Gato and others with this event for families and their pets." added Superintendent Walter J. Chavez.

The participation in this event held on the grounds or esplanade of Castillo San Felipe del Morro, is free, however, the regular entrance fee applies to all persons who wish to enter and visit the fortification.Also pet owners should be aware that only service animals are allowed inside the fortifications.All pets must wear their collar and leash at all times while they are on the grounds of

San Juan National Historic Site.

"We want the participation of families with their pets.It is the first edition of 'El Morro Pet Fest' and hope it will be the first of many activities that we can make for the well-being of our community and their quality of life." Said San Juan Mayor Jorge Santini.

San Juan National Historic Site is comprised of Castillo San Felipe del Morro, Castillo San Cristóbal, Fort San Juan de La Cruz (El Cañuelo), the San Juan Gate, Paseo del Morro and most of the City Wall.The fortifications are open every day from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, except on Tuesdays when the LeLoLai Festival program is held in the main plaza of San Cristóbal from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm.Entrance Fee to San Juan NHS is $3.00 for adults and free for ages 15 and under.
