NATIONAL PARK SERVICE CELEBRATES 99th BIRTHDAY AND FREE FEE DAY

San Juan, Puerto Rico- Superintendent Walter J. Chavez invites you to celebrate the 99th Birthday of the National Park Service by visiting Castillo San Felipe del Morro and Castillo San Cristobal on Tuesday, August 25th, 2015.Entrance to the fortifications will be free for all visitors in recognition of this special celebration.

"For 99 years the National Park Service has excelled in protecting historic places, natural areas and landmarks for future generations. Come and celebrate our 99th birthday by visiting the fortifications and as with every anniversary, entrance fees are waived", said Superintendent Walter J. Chavez.

"This year, visitors can experience new exhibits which were recently installed and experience several activities, such as ranger guided programs, Jr. Ranger activities and others for the entire family. This 99 year anniversary also gives us the opportunity to begin kicking off our plans for our centennial celebration next year. 2016 will mark the 100th year of the National Park System.Please continue to check our website and news releases as we announce the many activities we have planned for San Juan National Historic Site and our visitors," concluded Superintendent Chavez.

On Aug. 25, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed legislation to create the National Park Service. Today, there are 408 national parks throughout the U.S and its territories and each one tells an important part of the American story. Some commemorate notable people and achievements, others conserve magnificent landscapes and natural wonders, and all provide a place to have fun and learn. And, on August 25, all National Parks will offer free entrance for everyone.

This free-fee day is waived for visitors at the fortifications;however this does not include Tour Operators operating under Commercial Use Authorizations within the park. Tour Operators will continue to pay the normal fee, as described in their authorizations

San Juan National Historic Site is comprised of Castillo San Felipe del Morro, Castillo San Cristóbal, Fort San Juan de La Cruz (El Cañuelo), San Juan Gate, and most of the City Wall. Entrance to San Juan National Historic Site is $5.00 for visitors over 15 years and younger are free with a paid adult and is open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.except on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.

El National Park Service celebra su cumpleaños número 99

San Juan, Puerto Rico- El Superintendente Walter J. Chávez les invita a celebrar el cumpleaños número 99 del National Park Service, visitando el Castillo San Felipe del Morro y el Castillo San Cristóbal el martes, 25 de agosto de 2015. La entrada a las fortificaciones será gratuita para todos los visitantes enreconocimiento de esta celebración especial.

"Durante 99 años el National Park Servicese ha destacado en la protección de lugares históricos, espacios naturales y lugares de interés para generaciones futuras. Ven a celebrar nuestro cumpleaños número 99 visitando las fortificaciones y como acostumbrado con cada aniversario la entradas al parque será libre de costo," dijo el superintendente Walter J. Chávez.

"Este año, los visitantes pueden experimentar nuevas exposiciones que fueron instaladas recientemente y la experiencia de varias actividades, tales como visitas guiadas, actividades para los pequeños guarda parques (Jr.Rangers) y otras actividades para toda la familia. Este aniversario número 99, también nos da la oportunidad de comenzar con nuestros planes de celebración para el centenario el próximo año.El 2016 marcará el año 100 del sistema del National Park Service. Este día libre de costo es solo para los visitantes a las fortificaciones, no incluye a los operadores de guías turísticos o tenedores de autorizaciones de uso comercial en el parque.Operadores continuarán pagando su tarifa tal y como está reseñado en las cláusulas de su permiso comercial.

San Juan National Historic Site está compuesto por el Castillo San Felipe del Morro, el Castillo San Cristóbal, el Fuerte de San Juan de La Cruz (El Cañuelo), Puerta de San Juan, y la mayor parte de la muralla histórica de la ciudad. El parque está abierto todos los días de 9:00 am a 6:00 pm, excepto Acción de Gracias, Navidad y Año Nuevo. La admisión a San Juan NHS y sus fortificaciones es de $ 5 para los visitantes 16 años o mayores y gratuita para los menores de 15 años con un adulto.
