Herbs are easy to grow, beautiful to look at, and add wonderful flavor to your food. Explore the nineteenth century cultivation and use of herbs with Michael Goudket, museum guide at Old Bethpage Village Restoration and designer of the historic herb garden at Raynham Hall Museum in Oyster Bay. Learn about starting herbs from seeds, which ones to grow from flats, how to amend the soil, watering, harvesting, and get some simple recipes to use what you grow. You can have an herb garden on an acre or on a window sill, and need no special skills to grow the old-fashioned herbs. Two programs will be offered, one at 1:00 p.m. and one at 3:00 p.m. Each program will last about one hour. There will be herbs to crush and sniff, and participants will take home a nifty fact sheet!
