Noted Author to Speak in Honor of Presidents Day
On Saturday, February 16, 2013, at 2 p.m., author Philip McFarland will present a talk based on his book, Mark Twain and the Colonel. The talk will be held in the Christ Church Parish Hall, located at 61 East Main Street in the hamlet of Oyster Bay. Sagamore Hill National Historic Site is sponsoring Mr. McFarland’s appearance, which will include a book signing. The event is free of charge.

The National Park Service (NPS) recently awarded a $7.2 million contract to E & A Restoration, Inc. of Syosset, New York for the restoration and rehabilitation of Sagamore Hill, the home of Theodore Roosevelt.

National Park Week at Sagamore Hill National Historic Site
Sagamore Hill will be hosting a series of family activities and ranger programs for National Park Week from Saturday, April 21 through Sunday, April 29. Participation in these activities and programs are FREE. These activities include a new junior ranger program, a new ranger guided walk in Oyster Bay, a performance by folk singer Johnny Cuomo, a presentation on National Parks by First Light Photography, and an appearance by Theodore Roosevelt as portrayed by James Foote. In addition, we will be offering a series of special programs about the history of the National Park Service on April 21, 22, 28 & 29.

Theodore Roosevelt died around 4 o'clock in the morning January 6, 1919 when he was sixty years old. Many dignitaries attended Roosevelt's funeral including Vice-president Thomas Marshall who said that "Death had to take him sleeping, for if Roosevelt had been awake, there would have been a fight."
