Great Backyard Bird Count to be Hosted by Sagamore Hill National Historic Site and Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center

The National Park has exercised a contract option with BlueScope, Construction Inc. of Kansas City, Missouri and Ronkonkoma, NY to begin phase II of the exterior rehabilitation project of the Old Orchard home at Sagamore Hill NHS.

Theodore Roosevelt's Sagamore Hill home will undergo a $6.2 million rehabilitation beginning in spring 2012. The three year project will give the home a comprehensive interior and exterior rehabilitation of its architectural and structural elements, from its roof to the foundation.

Visitor Center and Museum Store Renovations Complete
Sagamore Hill National Historic Site in partnership with its cooperating association, Eastern National, Inc., which runs the site's bookstore and museum shop, announces the completion of a $13,000.00 interior renovation to the site's Visitor Center and bookstore which includes new furniture, lighting enhancements, and other improvements to the building.

Sagamore Hill National Historic Site Partners with Dickinson State University to Scan Theodore Roosevelt Papers
Since August 2010, the work of two museum assistants Sarah Curley and Jacqueline Billig, has greatly benefitted Sagamore Hill National Historic Site’s archives and the needs of future researchers. These talented women, who are sponsored by Dickinson State University in North Dakota, have been working on site at the park, scanning primary source documents related to Theodore Roosevelt’s life and legacy. The resulting digitized copies of Theodore Roosevelt’s writings will be available for researchers on the Internet. The hope is that the final product will be similar to the Lincoln, Washington and Jefferson papers available on the Library of Congress website.
