Memorial Day Weekend Activities

Sagamore Hill, home of President Theodore Roosevelt, is the perfect destination for families who want to do something special for the Memorial Day Week End.  The following activities and events are free and no reservations are required:

Junior Ranger Activities with Special Sesquicentennial Prizes:  Check in at the Visitor Center to arrange for Junior Ranger Activities. These are suitable for 4th grade and up; and especially for families. There are four different booklets; completing any three will earn the special 150th patch only available during this sesquicentennial year.  These programs are available at no cost; ask for them when you arrive at the Visitor Center.

North Point Brass Quintet:  On Saturday at 2PM come for a program of  music for brass instruments on the porch of Sagamore Hill. Works will include the Battle Hymn Republic, Amazing Grace,  Paragon Rag; other traditional music will be performed as well.

Jessica Semins Fiddle and Band:   On Sunday at 2PM Jessica Semins and her ensemble will perform a concert of traditional Irish Music.  In addition to Ms. Semins, who plays fiddle, she will be joined by two other musicians, Dan Lowery, flutist, and Johnnie Cuomo, guitar.  The music is lively and entertaining and fun for the whole family.

These programs are held on the porch and seating is not provided, so bring a blanket or chairs if you want more than grass for a seat.

James Foote Portraying  President Theodore Roosevelt.  On Memorial Day Afternoon come and see James Foote, historic re-enactor of President Roosevelt on the grounds of Sagamore Hill. Mr. Foote has spent more than two decades portraying the 26th president and his presence is always a treat.

Summer Schedule:  On Memorial Day Week End Sagamore Hill moves to its summer schedule:  Open seven days per week. Tours of the home are limited to fourteen persons are offered on the hour from 10 to 4.On busy days, especially week ends, tours often sell out by early afternoon; plan to come early in the day to take advantage of the other museum and nature trail. Tour  tickets are five dollars each and tickets are sold on a first-come-first-served basis for each day beginning at 9 AM. The grounds of Sagamore Hill are open year round from dawn to dusk

Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, located at 12 Sagamore Hill Road, Oyster Bay, New York, is a unit of the National Park Service.  The site was established by Congress in 1962 to preserve and interpret the structures, landscape, collections and other cultural resources associated with Theodore Roosevelt’s home in Oyster Bay, New York, to ensure that future generations understand and appreciate the life and legacy of Theodore Roosevelt, his family and the significant events associated with him.
