One of Sagamore Hill’s greatest natural resource values lies in the high number of varied habitat types located in close proximity to each other. From oak-tulip forests, to open fields, to ponds, to salt marshes, the park offers a wide variety of habitat types that place host to an equally varied flora and fauna.

Theodore Roosevelt decided not to complete his studies at Columbia University’s School of Law once he was elected, at age 23, to the New York State Assembly in November 1881. At the time, he was the state’s youngest assemblyman and eager to join “the governing class.”
