Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, the home of Theodore Roosevelt in Oyster Bay, Long Island, will present special weekend programs throughout the summer. Programs will include live music, arts and crafts, history and a Rough Rider cavalry demonstration. While the Theodore Roosevelt Home rehabilitation project closure continues this summer, the Sagamore Hill Visitor Center and Theodore Roosevelt Museum at Old Orchard will be open Wednesday through Sunday through the remainder of the year. Park grounds and trails will continue to be open seven days per week from sunrise to sunset.

June

Birding for Beginners on Sunday, June 8th at 10 a.m. - On Father's Day 1910, Theodore Roosevelt compiled a list of birds. Participants will look for some of the same bird varieties that TR identified – and maybe a few that he never saw.  A children's bird craft activity will be available from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Flag Day on Saturday, June 14 at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. - To commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day landing in Normandy on June 6th, a park ranger will discuss Brigadier General Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. and the American landing on Utah Beach. In addition, we will be offering a Flag Day craft activity from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Guided Nature Walk on Sunday, June 15 at 1:00 p.m. - Join the park's volunteer naturalist on an exploration of Sagamore Hill's fields and woodland trails.  In addition, a children's activity will be available from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Wildflower Lore on Saturday, June 28 at 10:00 a.m. – Learn how some of the park's native plants got their names. A slide presentation will be followed by a nature walk to identify some common wildflowers. A wildflower children's craft activity will be available from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

July

Sagamore Hill Band on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 2:00 p.m., the Sagamore Hill Band will perform a live music concert. Under the direction of Bandmaster Steve Walker, the concert will feature music of the era of Theodore Roosevelt including, works by Sousa, period campaign songs, and popular selections of tha tday. The concert will take place at Sagamore Hill NHS. Audience seating is on the lawn, so bring a blanket or a lawn chair.

August

Rough Riders on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. - The "Rough Rider" Cavalry Troop of the Nassau-Suffolk Horsemen's Association will offer this demonstration of riding techniques used by mounted soldiers of the Spanish American War. The Rough Rider re-enactors will set-up in the field adjacent to the windmill behind the visitor center. A period encampment will be set up as well.
