Anna’s Hummingbird (Calypte anna)

This beautiful hummingbird is present year round in the northern regions of the Sonoran Desert. Adult males have a rose/reddish-orange iridescent helmet. They can easily be lured to backyard hummingbird feeders.

Length: 4 in.

Diet: Nectar and small insects

Even though the Sonoran Desert is known as very hot and dry place, snow sometimes falls and accumulates on the desert floor of Saguaro National Park. When it does it turns the desert into a winter wonderland.
