  Badger (Taxidea taxus)

  Badgers are a rare sight at Saguaro National Park, mostly only seen through the use of wilderness cameras such as this instance.

  Bats

  28 species of bats call Arizona their home. Here at Saguaro National Park, two species of nectar feeding bats, the Mexican long-tongued and the lesser long-nosed, play a vital role in the pollination of cacti, including the saguaro.

  Black-tailed Jackrabbit (Lepus californicus)

  Black-tailed jackrabbits are fairly common at Saguaro National Park. These large herbivores escape predators by leaping away at speeds of up to 35 miles and hour (56 km/hr)!

  Bobcats (Lynx rufus)

  Bobcats, or wildcats, reach 2-4 feet in length and tend to weigh between 15 to 29 pounds. These highly adaptive cats do well around the borders of urbanized areas as well as their natural habitat.

  Coyotes (Canis latrans)

  Coyotes are very vocal animals that can be heard at both districts of Saguaro National Park. They are opportunistic omnivores that rely on prickly pear cactus fruit and saguaro in addition to hunting.

  Desert Tortoise (Gopherus agassizii)

  The desert tortoise can live anywhere from 50 to 100 years! Although common, they are rarely seen outside their burrows and are better left alone or you might get a nasty surprise when they empty their bladder in self defense.

  Hooded Skunk (Mephitis macroura)

  The hooded skunk is the least common skunk of the four species in the area. Although reluctant to, skunks have the ability to spray a noxious fluid up to 12 feet away! They give plenty of warning beforehand by stomping their feet or doing a handstand fully displaying their tail.

  Javelina (Pecari tajacu)

  Javelinas, or collared peccaries are common in the park and nearby areas. They live in groups of 4-20 and are opportunistic omnivores, mostly known for eating prickly pear cactus. Despite their appearance, they are not in the pig family.

  Pocket Mouse (Perognathus or Chaetodipus)

  A pocket mouse on a large boulder showing its moves. Pocket mice are omnivores feeding on a variety of insects, greens, and seeds. They're highly adapted to the arid desert thanks to their specialized kidneys and knowledge in plugging their burrows to keep the temperature low and humidity inside.

  Ringtail (Bassariscus astutus)

  Ringtails are also known as ringtail cats or miner's cat. These small members of the raccoon family are Arizona's state mammal and fairly common but rarely seen.
