Tucson Mountain District
4th Grade Field Trip
"Desert Communities"

Description:  This curriculum-based environmental education program explores the interrelationships of the plants, animals, and prehistoric Hohokam people of the Sonoran Desert. In this two-hour program, students imagine what life was like as a Hohokam child over 1000 years ago. Experienced staff guide them through discussions, short hikes, and four stations of exciting, hands-on activities. Classes are encouraged to have lunch in the picnic area after the program.

A classroom pre-visit, one week prior to the field trip, prepares the students with a knowledge base to enhance their park experience.

These programs are offered at the Tucson Mountain District (West) on Tuesdays and Thursdays, November through mid-April, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. There is no charge for the program, and fee waivers are available.

Group size: 2 classes (60 students)

To Request This Program:  Contact Chip Littlefield, Tucson Mountain District, 520-733-5157.
