Behind the Scenes tour and talk about Saint-Gaudens’ Antique Tapestries, purchased by the family during their travels in Europe. 

Take a walk to the Curatorial Department for an inside look at one of the 17th Century Flemish Tapestries being stabilized by Museum Specialist, Martha Knapp. Learn about the history of tapestry making and some of the techniques and materials used to preserve them for future generations.

The tour offered most Mondays thru Fridays at 1:00 p.m. Sign up at the Visitor Center. Limited to 6 people on a first come/first served basis.

The 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago.

Augustus Saint-Gaudens was an artistic advisor for the 1893 Columbian Exposition. Calling it the greatest gathering of artists since the Renaissance, he designed the obverse of the Fair’s commemorative medallion.
