On Saturday, June 22, there will be a day long celebration of the 350th Anniversary of Rhode Island's Royal Charter. The festivities will begin at the Rhode Island State House starting at 10 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Charter Room. From 1 PM to 6 PM, the celebration will move down to the Roger Williams National Memorial, beginning with the unveiling of a plaque marking the spot where Williams’ home once stood. Other activities at the memorial will include a trading post to see and touch the types items that Roger Williams and Native Americans would have traded in the mid-1600s, performances by the Eastern Medicine Singers and the Big Nazo puppets
Did You Know?
Roger Williams' statue at Roger Williams University actually features the face of baseball legend Ted Williams. Sculptor Armand LaMontagne previously made a Ted Williams statue for the Baseball Hall of Fame and figured the two must be related in some way. No known image of Roger Williams exists.
