Fire Restrictions
On October 12, 2010, due to moderating conditions, Rocky Mountain National Park lifted fire restrictions. The lifting of restrictions only applies to the park as both Larimer and Boulder Counties as well as the Arapaho/Roosevelt Forests will continue with their fire restrictions.
Although restrictions are being lifted, fall is the time when grasses have cured and can support wildfires on any dry day. Please remain vigilant about fire mitigation.
Fires are permitted only in designated fire grates in developed campgrounds and picnic areas. All open fires are prohibited in backcountry campsites. However, petroleum fueled stoves and grills will still be permitted in designated backcountry campsites, as well as developed campgrounds and picnic areas. Smoking is also prohibited, except within enclosed vehicles, parking lots or developed areas that are cleared of all flammable materials for at least three feet in diameter. Visitors are reminded of potential carelessness and are cautioned to properly extinguish all lighted smoking materials to avoid receiving fines.
