Cardiac Fatality at Rocky Mountain National Park

A 74-year-old man from Fort Collins suffered a cardiac emergency while snowshoeing near Mills Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. His friends contacted park rangers by cell phone and performed Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The man was pronounced dead at approximately 1:00 p.m.       

Mills Lake is 2.8 miles from the trailhead and close to 10,000 feet in elevation. Park staff, assisted by Larimer County Search and Rescue, recovered the man's body and reached the Glacier Gorge Trailhead at approximately 4:30 p.m. His body was then transferred to the Larimer County Coroner's Office.    His name will not be released until next of kin are notified. No further information is available at this time.
