Volunteers at Carter Barron
Volunteers play an important part in the operations of the Carter Barron Amphitheatre, Rock Creek Park. There are many exciting opportunities. You must have a pleasant and positive personality necessary for public contact work and be willing to work days, nights and weekends. Training will be provided where necessary. Volunteer uniform shirts or appropriate dress will be required. Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older (because of the evening hours and nature of the work environment). Remember the Carter Barron Amphitheatre is an outdoor venue built in 1950 (there is not a lot of air conditioning). All of the volunteer opportunities will require work outdoors and in the evening.
The following opportunities are available on most weekends during the summer (June - August):
Stage Hand: Assist the Production Coordinator and/or Stage Manager with stage changes, loading/unloading instruments and equipment, and lifting equipment up to 40 lbs. Theater blacks, appropriate foot wear and volunteer shirt (provided on loan) are required and you must be fast on your feet and able to take direction easily.
Hospitality Volunteer: Assist Production Coordinator and backstage staff with hospitality set-up and break-down including food, beverage, and towels. Theater black and volunteer shirt (provided on loan) are required and you must be people-friendly.
Usher Volunteer: Greet patrons at the front gates or assist patrons in the theater with directions and information. Usher volunteers must arrive 30 minutes prior to the opening of the theater gates. Appropriate dress or volunteer shirt (provided on loan) will be required. You must be people friendly.
