WASHINGTON— The National Park Service (NPS) will conduct annual fall seeding and aeration at Fort Circle Parks, Carton Barron and Meridian Hill Park beginning Wednesday, October 22, requiring temporary closures. We kindly ask the public to observe the posted closures to help ensure the project’s success. Fort Circle Parks: From 8 a.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2014 through 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2015, a grass panel near Fort Stevens, immediately east of the Latin American Montessori Bilingual Public Charter School on Missouri Avenue NW, will be closed temporarily for the work. Carter Barron Multi-Use Fields: From 8 a.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2014 through 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2015, portions of Carter Barron Multi-Use Fields at 16th and Kennedy Streets NW will be closed temporarily. This includes the large field south of Morrow Drive that is used for permitted sports activities. Meridian Hill Park: From 8 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2014 through 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2015, portions of Meridian Hill Park will be closed. The northern turf panel on the upper terrace will be closed from November 5 through December 3. The southern turf panel on the upper terrace and the adjacent turf and tree panels to the east and west will be closed December 3 through January 7. This will include the turf panels of the upper terrace that are used for special events and First Amendment activities. To promote safe access for all those who enjoy the parks, including small children, rangers remind visitors and neighbors it is important that pet owners follow leash laws at all times. Title 36 of the Code of Federal Regulations requires that pets be restrained at all times on a leash no longer than 6 feet. DC Department of Parks and Recreation maintains dog parks in the city.
