WASHINGTON – Rock Creek Park Superintendent Tara Morrison announced today that the National Park Service (NPS) is preparing an Environmental Assessment (EA) for pedestrian access improvements at Fort Totten. The public scoping period runs from March 7 through April 7, 2014, during which time public comments will be accepted.

The purpose of the proposed project is to provide pedestrian access and public safety improvements, and to provide additional protection for park resources from the North Michigan Park neighborhood to the Fort Totten Metrorail and bus facility.

The NPS will hold a public meeting to discuss the project on March 19 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Community College of the District of Columbia, 5171 South Dakota Avenue, NE, Washington, DC20017-2311. During the meeting project managers will be available to discuss alternatives and site characteristics.

The public is invited to comment on the proposed project, and to identify potential issues or concerns for consideration in the EA. During the meeting, comments may be submitted by written comment forms.Comments may also be submitted online (the NPS preferred method) by following the appropriate links at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/rocr, by fax to 202-895-6015, or by mail to:
