NPS Announces Availability of Environmental Assessment for Proposed Metro Memorial Park

Washington, D.C. – The National Park Service and the District of Columbia government, in cooperation with the National Capital Planning Commission, announce the availability for public review and comment of an Environmental Assessment for the proposed Metro Memorial Park.

The purpose of the memorial is to honor the victims of the 2009 Red Line Metrorail accident, celebrate the heroism of first responders, and uplift the community.The two sites under consideration for the memorial are managed by the National Park Service and are located in northeast Washington, DC: the property east of the intersection of South Dakota and New Hampshire Avenues, NE and the property north of the same intersection of South Dakota and New Hampshire Avenues, NE.As part of the project, the jurisdiction of the selected parcel would be transferred from the National Park Service to the District of Columbia.
