As of February 22, 2010, a new federal law makes possession of firearms in national parks subject to local and state firearms laws.

Federal law continues to prohibit firearms in federal facilities in this park. Those federal facilities are marked with signs at public entrances.
The United States Park Police work in conjunction with the National Park Service staff to protect the areas within their jurisdiction. Thus firearms are prohibited in the following USPP facilities within District 3: D-3 Substation, Edgewater Stables, H-3 Stables, Meridian Hill Lodge.
