Public Notice Beach Drive Closed
from Blagden Avenue to Park Road, NW November 21 & 22, 2005, 9:30
am to 2:30 pm Daily
Rock Creek Park maintenance workers will be repairing road
surfaces on Monday and Tuesday, November 21 and 22, 2005. Beach Drive
will be closed between Blagden Avenue and Park Road, NW from 9:30
a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day to provide space for the equipment and
allow personnel to work safely.

Rock Creek Park maintenance workers will be repairing the road surface
on Wednesday, November 23, 2005. Beach Drive will be closed between
Park Road, NW and Piney Branch Parkway, NW from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30
p.m. to provide space for the equipment and allow personnel to work
safely.

Rock Creek Park receives grant from Kodak
to develop new exhibits on the native people of the Rock Creek Valley.
Washington, D.C. - Rock Creek Park Superintendent Adrienne A. Coleman
announced today that Rock Creek Park will receive more than $4,900
worth of professional digital photography equipment from Kodak through
the National Park Foundation as part of the Proud Partners of America's
National Parks program.

Temporary Closure Of The
Pedestrian Footbridge over the Normanstone Tributary.
Pursuant to 36 CFR 1.5(a), Rock Creek National Park is closing the
pedestrian footbridge over Normanstone tributary in order to replace
the bridge. To protect public safety while the work occurs, the road
the footbridge will be closed from September 13, 2004, until the work
is finished.

Stream Restoration Activities in
Rock Creek Park
This Project is a result of the cooperative efforts of the National
Park Service, the Maryland State Highway Administration, the Federal
Highway Administration, the Virginia Department of Transportation,
the District of Columbia Department of Health- Fisheries Division
and the Smithsonian National Zoological Park.

Partnership Project to Restore Fish Passage
A long awaited project will begin this week in Rock Creek Park to
remove or bypass several manmade barriers that for generations have
prevented herring and other migratory fish from returning to primordial
spawning areas that lie upriver.

- The adminstrative history of Rock Creek Park is now
online here.
- The Rock Creek Park Nature Center recently received a $500,000
grant from Howard Hughes Medical Institute to develop an educational
partnership among six national parks in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan
area, two school systems, several nonprofit organizations and a university.
Called Bridging the Watershed, the partnership will use national parks
in Potomac River watershed as learning laboratories for high school
students.
