Explore the rich history of the 288-year-old Shelton House and hear the fascinating stories of the stubborn Shelton women who refused to vacate it when Union General Winfield S. Hancock established his corps' headquarters under the front porch during the May 1864 battle of Totopotomoy Creek.

Enjoy the rare experience of touring both the grounds and the inside of the house while learning about recent preservation efforts, archaeological findings, and the unique architectural details of the house which continue to inform the Park staff's knowledge of the site and its ever-evolving understanding of the many layers of history at the site.

Meet at the Rural Plains parking lot.  Please wear good walking shoes, prepare to do some moderate walking, and bring water!
