History at Sunset Continues with Chimborazo Hospital Program

Richmond National Battlefield Park offers the third of its five Wednesday evening Capital History at Sunset programs for 2009. The series continues on July 15 and runs through July 29. All programs are free, and begin at 7:00 pm.

The third program of the series, “Chimborazo: The Hospital on the Hill,” will take place on Wednesday, July 15, and will meet at the Chimborazo hospital site, located at 3215 East Broad Street, in Richmond. Join park historian Mike Gorman as he tours the grounds that held the largest hospital in the world at the time of the Civil War. The program is expected to last one and a half hours.

Please join us for the following programs:
July 22—“The Industrial Heart of the Confederacy” at the Tredegar Iron Works.
July 29— The Battle of First Deep Bottom.

Those interested in attending these free programs are advised to wear walking shoes and comfortable clothing. Insect repellent is also recommended.

Did You Know?
President Abraham Lincoln visited the Richmond area twice during the war. In July 1862 he met with General McClellan at Harrison’s Landing on the James River. Lincoln came to Richmond on April 4, 1865 and walked the streets of a city still smouldering from the evacuation fires.
