Revolutionary War Symposium: "Lock, Stock, and Barrel"

Washington's Spies
St. Paul's Church National Historical Site

At 2 PM, acclaimed historian Alexander Rose delves into the world of Revolutionary War espionage, exploring the intrigue of a dedicated group of spies in the New York area who supplied Washington with crucial information during the War of American Independence. Dr. Rose examined this theme in his recently published, Washington's Spies: The Story of America's First Spy Ring. His other books include Kings in the North: The House of Percy in British History, and the recently published, The American Rifle: A Biography. A reception follows the talk.

Meriam's Corner Exercise

The Town of Concord, joined by area minute companies of fife and drum units, pay remembrance to the fight at Meriam's Corner that marked the beginning og the six-hour running battle back to Boston. Free and open to the public.

Paul Revere Capture Ceremony

The Lincoln Minute Men and the Town of Lincoln, joined by other reenactment and fife and drum units, observe the historic capture of Paul Revere. Free and open to the public.

Minute Man Anniversary Lecture Series: "A Day to be Remembered"

Commemoration of the North Bridge Fight

The peace of the Concord Countryside will once more be shattered by the sounds of marching men and musket fire as British and Colonial Reenactors, Park Rangers and Volunteers bring the fateful morning of April 19, 1775 to life in this stirring tactical demonstration of the even history has come to know as "the shot heard round the world". Free and open to the public.

Spring Militia Muster Encampment

Militia soildiers are members of the community coming together to join forces to be called upon when the need arises. This weekend you will learn the drill of the militia soldier as he learns to load and fire his flintlock weapon. Free to the public.

Battle Road 
Minute Man National Historical Park
- Lincoln, MA
Imagine that it is early April, 1775 and you have been granted safe passage between the British fortifications on Boston Neck and the Massachusetts Countryside as tensions mount toward open conflict. Join hundreds of British and Colonial Reenactors, Park Rangers and Volunteers for an exciting day of living history demonstrations. Activities will include drill and musket demonstrations, artillery (cannon) firing, colonial crafts, period music and more!

At 1:00 p.m. the reenactors will stage a massed weapons demonstrations representing battle tactics of April 19, 1775, running over half a mile of the actual Battle Road. Free and open to the public.

Colonial Dance Program

Have you ever wanted to learn some of George Washington's dance steps? Now you have a chance. Learn 18th Century dance steps, as a group of experienced dancers perform and teach basic colonial dances. Free to the public.

Dawn Salute and Noth Bridge Remembrance Ceremony 
Minute Man National Historical Park
- Concord, MA
The Concord Minute Men and the Concord Independent Battery observe the opening battle of the American Revolutionary Wat in a moving musket and cannon salute to America's past. Following this at 7:30 a.m. join park staff and volunteers at the North Bridge for historical speeches and a wreath laying. Free and open to the public.

Lexington Battle Reenactment and Parade 
Minute Man National Historical Park
- Lexington, MA
The Town of Lexington celebrates the start of the American Revolution with a battle reenactment of the early-morning engagement between the town's militia and the British regulars. The town will also hold its Patriot's Day Parade about 2:00 in the afternoon. Free and open to the public.

Concord Patriot's Day Parade

Join us and the Town of  Concord for this annual celebration of the start of the American Revolution. The parade route winds from Concord Center, and passes over the North Bridge before returning to town. Free and open to the public.

Colonial Days
Charles Pinckney National Historic Site
- Mt Pleasant, SC
Celebrate National Park Week with two days of Lowcountry living history. Watch craftsmen in period dress demonstrate rice-pounding, indigo dyeing, iron-smithing and brick masonry. Visitors can participate in a game of historic cricket. Also included are Revolutionary War soldiers, 18th century music, sweet-grass basket sewing, quilting, African drumming, Gullah story-telling and visits from Eliza Licas Pinckney, George Washington and Charles Pinckney. All programs are free and open to the public.

Battle Road Heroes
Minute Man National Historical Park

Walk down a candle-lit path to the past. Listen to the personal stories of residents who lived alng the Battle Road on April 19, 1775. Join Captain William Smith, the Hartwells, the Lincoln Minute Men, drovers, musicians, and His Majesty's soldiers for this special evening of theater and history. Starting at 7:00 pm, tours leave approximately every 15 minutes. Fee charged

Military Through the Ages

Re-enactors representing soldiers from each of America's wars will be on hand to discuss their weaponry and equipment. Learn about the evolution of the country's fighting forces as we honor those who served our nation. Free to public.

The Lincoln Minute Men Come Home

Join us as we revisit some of the actual places where the Lincoln Minute Men once lived and fought. Activities will include drill and musket firing demonstrations, fife and drum music, tavern life, period crafts, children's games, and cooking. There will also be tours of the Captain William Smith House and the "Bloody Angle" where the Lincoln Minute Men had taken part in an ambush on the British column on April 19, 1775. Free to the public.

Kids will have a chance to experience 18th century kids activities and clothing. Play games such as Game of Graces, Rolling Hoop, and Jacobs Ladder. Learn the drill of a militia soldier, join the militia and sign the oath using a quill pen. Ever wear breeches and a waistcoat, or a petticoat and shortgown? Learn what these items are as kids try on 18th century clothing. Free to the public.

Town Meeting
Minute Man National Historical Park

Imagine it is January 1774 and you are attending a town meeting in Concord. Word has recently reached the town of the turbulence in Boston and the destruction of the East India tea. Will the town vote to support the Boston patriots and ban the consumption of tea? Will they vote to form a committee of correspondence? And while all this is going on, what is to be done about the school budget? This 40 minute program will provide visitors with the opportunity to match or oppose the opinions of other Concord residents of 1774. In the spirit of a true New England town meeting, you are encouraged to let your voice be heard! Free to the pubic.

March-out of the Continental Army Commemoration

The Weapons of Springfield Armory Through History

Speak with Living Historians from the American Revolution through Vietnam in an encampment setting.  Learn the sacrifices and contributions of families and soldiers. Discover how Springfield Armory weapons affected battle tactics and soldiers lives. Be sure to stay for the blank firing demonstrations of the black powder firearms and cannon scheduled throughout the day.  Try out a firearms scavenger hunt, designed for all ages.  A food vendor will be on site. Trade and Craft Fair

Artisans will demonstrate a variety of skills like fur trapping, tanning, joinery, and carpentry. Learn about colonial medicine, herbs, and 18th century games and toys.  Free to the public.

Carolina Day at Fort Moultrie

  - Charleston Harbor, SC
On June 28, 1776 nine British warships were defeated by soldiers manning an incomplete palmetto-log and sand fortification on Sullivan`s Island. This action was the first major and decisive victory of the Patriots over the British in the Revolutionary War, and saved Charleston from British occupation for four years. The fort was later completed and named Fort Moultrie in honor of its commander, Colonel William Moultrie. Join us in celebrating the anniversary of this significant event in South Carolina and United States history with a special evening event including reenactors from the 2nd South Carolina Regiment. Admission to Fort Moultrie is free all day.

Public Readings of the Declaration of Independence

Join the Park as we commemorate public readings of the Declaration of Independence to the Continental Army. 
In the morning and in the afternoon public readings will take place in the fort`s Parade Ground. This will be followed by cannon salutes and cheers for the new independent United States of America. Children may join this event by serving as honor guards. Free to the public.

The Siege Begins
Fort Stanwix National Monument  - Rome, NY
From August 3 to the 23, 1777, British forces under command of Barry St. Leger laid siege to Fort Stanwix. Events this day honor the beginning of the siege and its importance to national and world history. A flag raising and cannon salute will mark this important ocassion. Free to the public.

Willett's Sortie

On August 6, 1777, Lt. Col. Willett and 250 men triumphantly left the fort, raided, and destroyed the camps left empty by the same loyalists and British Native allies participating in the nearby Battle of Oriskany. This afternoon gather in the Parade Grounds of the recreated fort and listen and watch as living historians interpret the tactics used to hold Fort Schuyler that day.

The Siege Ends

On this date, in 1777, British forces under command of Gen. Barry St.Leger abandoned the area as Continental troops under command of Maj. Gen. Benedict Arnold arrived to aid the weary 3rd NY troops. A cannon salute and flag raising ceremony will accompany this fine occasion during the morning hours. Free to the public.

Constitution Week

Join the National Park Service in clebration of Constitution Week by attending one of the free special events. Events include a naturalization ceremony and two days of living history demonstrations. Throughout the week visitors may take part in the I Signed the Constitution program, signing a scroll that will be sent to the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, the city where Charles Pinckney and 38 other delegates signed the world-changing document on September 17, 1787.

232nd Anniversary of the Battles of Saratoga

18th century American and British soldiers set the 1777 scene with tents, campfires, musket and cannon firings.  Discuss strategy with officers, judge a court-martial, go on a "reconnaissance" party, learn about open-fire cooking techniques, see a dramatic performance of British Colonel Bannistre Tarleton or take part in mock musket drills. 229th Anniversary of the Battle of Kings Mountain

Annual Candlelight Tour

Guided tours proceed along the one-mile historic trail, which is illuminated by the soft glow of candlelight and torchlight.  Along the way, costumed volunteers portray Colonial citizens and soldiers who tell stories of peace and war at old Ninety Six in the 1700’s.

Battle of Kings Mountain Anniversary Encampment

The Overmountain men marched from East Tennessee to win the victory at Kings Mountain. Visit the park to learn about the men and see musket and rifle demonstrations. Free to the public. 
 

Candlelight Tour
Saratoga National Historical Park

Feel the welcome of the warm, soft glow of candlelight as Old Saratoga Historical Association members in period costume, park staff, and park volunteers guide visitors through General Philip Schuyler`s 1777 country house.  Light refreshments and period music follow the tours. Dress for the weather.  Flashlights are recommended for the walk back to your vehicle. Free to the public.

Siege at Night

The one-hour program will provide insight to the events on the battlefield after the sun went down and feature the firing of an 18-pounder siege cannon by Lamb's Artillery, the park's re-created artillery unit. Fee charged

A Back Country Holiday
