Lowell, Massachusetts
Founded in 1825, the Hamilton Manufacturing Company operated the three-story brick Italianate building as a textile mill until production ceased in 1926. Today it is part of the Lowell Locks and Canals National Landmarks Historic District. The district showcases the extraordinarily well-preserved evolution of Lowell, America’s first major industrial city. Assisted with a $250,000 Save America’s Treasures grant, the Architectural Heritage Foundation redeveloped this site, formerly a counting house and storehouse, into 65 loft-style apartments.
