Lorance Creek Natural Area contains the best remaining wetland area in Central Arkansas and is easily accessible to many people and yet still secluded. With Land and Water Conservation Fund assistance, the state acquired this 294-acre property in 1990 to help protect a mosaic of wetland habitats. Another LWCF grant in 2002 added an accessible, paved trail and elevated boardwalk to the swamp interior. A total of 525 acres is owned and managed by the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission and its neighbor, the Nature Conservancy, protected for future generations.
