Arlington, Virginia
The Gates of Arlington complex was constructed in 1938 as part of a large-scale residential garden apartment community. The complex includes 50 buildings that were designed in a simplified Colonial Revival style. A recent $39,744,313 rehabilitation utilized the Federal Historic Preservation Tax Credit program, administered by the National Park Service. Damaged and deteriorated slate roofs received new slate, and existing non-historic windows were replaced. On the interior plaster walls and ceilings were repaired, and kitchens, bathrooms, and HVAC systems were updated. A new community center complements the existing housing complex. The Gates of Arlington continues to serve as affordable rental housing for the surrounding Arlington County community.
