Charlotte Amalie, U.S Virgin Islands
The entirety of Hassel Island is included in its historic district. In addition to remains of 19th-century shipping facilities, Hassel Island shows its less peaceful past. Particularly prominent are the ruins of Fort Shipley, a remnant of the British occupation of St. Thomas during the Napoleonic Wars (1801-1815), when Denmark was allied with Napoleonic France. A visit to Hassel Island complements a tour of the historic places of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
