A new partnership was launched with the Franklin Institute of Philadelphia and the Valley Forge Natural Resources and Interpretation divisions to host a Discovery Camp for children the week of August 6 through 10. Children explored, hiked and interacted with the park's wide range of natural and cultural resources. Franklin Institute staff and park ranger staff led activities about animals, soldier life, and the Valley Creek watershed and provided children authentic tasks as scientists and historians. A graduation ceremony was held as the culmination of the week's events during which participants reviewed their experiences, recited the Junior Ranger Oath and received Junior Ranger badges. Two bus loads of children who were participating in the Franklin Institute Discovery Camp at the Franklin Institute museum in Philadelphia came to Valley Forge on August 8 to experience the wonders of the park as well.
