The Advanced Junior Ranger Program at Curecanti and Black Canyon provides students entering grades three and four with an immersive, week-long summer camp experience. The low cost of these camps ($25 for the week) ensures broad community participation. Each summer, 40 campers get to know the parks in their backyard through hiking, swimming, and boating experiences. Over the course of a week, children hike 20 miles on park trails, meeting Let's Move Outside goals. Many of these children would not have access to these opportunities without this program. Children share their experiences with family and friends at a family picnic and awards ceremony on the final day. The program helps build strong community relations by forging lasting relationships between park rangers and local families.
