GETTING READY FOR 2016:

A Call to Action
Action Item:
A Class Act
Also Promotes:
Live and Learn
Year Accomplished:
2013

As part of the Class Act action, Andrew Johnson National Historic Site has formulated a partnership with our closest neighboring school to provide in-depth history experiences for the entire fourth grade level. Two kick off events included activities for the students such as a National Park Trivia game, "What do Park Rangers Do?" career introduction, and an appearance by President Johnson as portrayed by a park employee. Students were enthralled with a Civil War encampment program, at which students participated  in marching and drilling exercises and witnessed an overview of Civil War camp life as well as the trying times for women on the home front. This partnership program will continue as we approach the Centennial, allowing students to participate in  field trip and class activities presented by the education staff to gain an understanding  of  the National Park Service mission.
